Silversmithing Tuition

Silversmithing tuition is offered on a one-to-one basis in my workshop at home. The topics below are a guide to what we will cover during depending on what type of jewellery you wish to make and whether you choose a whole or half day tuition: 

Health & Safety issues
Workshop equipment and tools
Cutting and piercing silver
Basic shaping/bending/manipulating
Basic chain making and making jump rings
Forming metal using mandrels/triblets
Texturing and forging wire and sheet
Annealing
Reticulation
Stone setting
Soldering
Cleaning up after soldering
Filing and sanding
Polishing and surface treatments
Hallmarking

Whole day private silversmithing tuition - £120, including the first £10 of materials, lunch and refreshments. Usually 10am-4.30pm, but times can be negogiated. We will cover all the silversmithing techniques required to complete at least one piece of jewellery to take home with you. Most people complete one piece of more complicated jewellery or two more simple pieces such as a ring or bangle.

Half day private silversmithing tuition - £70, including the first £10 of materials. Refreshments are also provided. Usually 10am-1pm or 1pm-4pm but times can be negotiated. The three hours of tuition are enough to produce one simple piece of jewellery such as a ring, bangle or pendant.
